Supporting young talent in the media industry

Countering fake news and disinformation

In a world where disinformation and fake news can go around the globe with just a few clicks, the role of media professionals is becoming increasingly important. Credible information, well-founded research and independent journalism are the backbone of a democratic society. Young people who stand up for these values not only deserve respect, but also targeted support. That is why we are supporting the Junge Presse Bayern e.V. as part of our Christmas campaign this year.

50 years of “making media” – giving young people access to the media landscape

Junge Presse Bayern e.V. is an association that has been committed to helping young media-makers in Bavaria for over five decades. Founded in 1970 as a non-partisan organization, the association offers teenagers and young adults up to the age of 27 the opportunity to develop journalistic skills and gain valuable experience and contacts in the media industry.

The Junge Presse Bayern supports its members with a wide range of offers. These include practice-oriented workshops and seminars, as well as the Mobile Media Academy, which enables flexible and digital further education. In 2023, for example, three youth media congresses were the focus of the work. These events included workshops, seminars and exchange opportunities on a wide range of topics such as “Entering journalism”, “Media law” and journalistic styles and genres. 2024 was marked by collaborations and networking with other associations, such as Munich eSports. Further exciting projects are planned for 2025, including an educational camp in the Alps lasting several days on topics such as journalism in social media or public relations, and the continuation of the media congresses.

In addition, the association offers an important opportunity for networking with media houses, universities and companies, with which long-term collaborations and partnerships also exist. JOIN magazine, which was revived in 2024, gives young talents a platform to test and showcase their journalistic skills.

The association is based in the House of Youth Work in Munich and has around 400 to 500 members, who are made up of school and university students and apprentices, as well as supporting members. In addition, the Junge Presse Bayern raises young people's awareness of current challenges such as fake news and ethical media consumption.
